The 411 on Canine Good Citizen and K9 Nosework

We are so excited to offer two new programs at Cedar Valley Canine: Canine Good Citizen Certification (CGC) and K9 Nosework. We’ve added these programs with our certified trainers for any dog to complete to ensure a stronger owner/canine bond and happier pup!

Your first question probably is: what are these programs and why should I do them with my furry friend?

The Canine Good Citizen certification (CGC) is an AKC sponsored program that’s open to all dogs–purebred and mixed breed. It focuses on teaching the basics of good manners and obedience, instilling the values of responsible ownership, and strengthening the bond between you and your dog at home and out in the community.

Inspired by working detection dogs, K9 Nose Work is a fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.

This sport, while it does have sanctioned games and activities for dogs to compete in, is also just a great way to tire our high-energy and smart dogs- all while giving them a sense of purpose. A tired pup is one happy dog!
