About our Breeding Program

We’ve been successfully breeding German Shepherds for over 25 years, and we’ve taken that experience and expertise and used it to develop and raise our standards to the highest level of excellence.

Our breeding program is small and carefully monitored. As a family-owned kennel, our German Shepherds are hand-raised with a keen focus on health and temperament. We take the utmost care for our puppies and dogs.

We strive to produce a loving family guardian, friendly and playful, but always on alert for potential danger. An addition to your home that can participate in all activities - a beach vacation, an afternoon hike, a trip to the mountains or an evening at the sports fields with your children.

We guarantee your puppy will:

Have Sound Temperament

Your CVC puppy or dog will be ready for any environment.

The Cedar Valley Canine dog is healthy, environmentally sound, confident, and athletic with strong social skills. We carefully balance the bloodlines of both sire and dam in order to enhance the strongest and most desirable character traits of each one. Europe and other countries have long implemented a Breed Survey to establish health and temperament guidelines, but we’ve found that even the highest Breed Survey ratings don’t necessarily translate well in an everyday environment.

At CVC, we’ve developed a system of our own for evaluation that we feel both enhances the European standards and exceeds it. Rather than having a choreographed field exercise, we implement “real world” scenarios. Anything from crowds, variable and extreme noise, startle testing, stairwells and open stairs (inside and out), dark hallways, and traffic, we test with our dogs to ensure that they are ready for any environment. We can assure our clients that the puppy or dog they purchase from us will be strong, confident and of sound temperament

We strive to produce a joyful family oriented dog, friendly and loving, ready to play or work but just as content to relax quietly in the home.

All of our dogs go through rigorous genetic testing to ensure healthy litters.

Along with the traditional Breed Survey, we also take extra precaution in testing all of our breeding dogs for the proper clearances. We check for issues with hips, elbows and orthopedics as well as vision. We can ensure that all of our dogs have passed these clearances allowing for the guaranteed health of our puppies.

What Our Clients Are Saying About Us...

Kristi C.

Dave and his staff are amazing. They helped find the right dog for me and have worked with us to make sure we are a successful fit. I have a wonderful companion who is better than I could have ever imagined. Dave gave us a program to follow and explained every step. He let me know what to expect and has been available to answer any questions I have along the way. Dave and his staff love the dogs they work with and it shows in the way the dogs respond to them. When I pull in the drive [at CVC], my dog is excited and happy to be there.

Tyler B.

Cedar Valley Canine is a sure thing if you are wanting to add a German Shepherd to your family and train them to their full potential! We bought both of our German Shepherds from them and do our follow-up training there as well. We were first time GSD parents and Dave and Betsy were/are amazing in the way they answered all of our crazy questions and taught us how to communicate with our new family members. I would give more stars if it were possible.

Dave is by far the best dog trainer in Nashville! My wife and I  purchased our first German Shepard pup and training class from him 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier. His drive and knowledge is unmatched. Our puppy has been amazing; her drive, train-ability, and temperament are amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!!

Kaye R.

In the past 10 years, we have obtained four German Shepherds from Dave Taylor. These dogs have all been perfect companions in our family and expertly trained by Dave in obedience and protection. Dave is extremely knowledgeable about dog behavior and handling, and he will be a phone call away through the dog's life if you have any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

ediesocial.jpg

+ What can I expect in a CVC dog or puppy?

We breed European working line dogs - primarily West German, Czech and Hungarian bloodlines. Our dogs are dark black and tan, sable and naturally occurring solid black. We strive to produce a social, environmentally sound dog with natural protection instincts. Our puppies are active, inquisitive and have strong personalities. They benefit greatly from consistent constructive training. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you put your puppies in a structured training program as they develop. We offer several different options for training and they are designed to fit our type of German Shepherd.

+ How much training and what kind of training do you recommend for a Cedar Valley Canine puppy?

We begin training at 7 - 8 weeks of age. The busy puppy translates into a young dog that is suitable for a wide variety of activities and it is important to direct the natural energy and curiosities of the dog into practical training and living scenarios. We also advise crate training for our dogs. Dogs have an inherent desire for a den or shelter and a crate allows them that space and also aids in the housebreaking as they have a natural instinct to keep their living and sleeping area clean.

+ How much is a Cedar Valley Canine dog?

Puppies start at $3500.

+ Is there a waiting list for puppies currently? When can I expect my puppy?

We do have a waiting list for our puppies. The time of the waitlist is hard to predict as it is dependent on many things - preference of sex and color as well as the size of any given litter.

+ What kind of family is the right fit for a Cedar Valley Canine dog?

German Shepherds can live almost anywhere - in an apartment in the city or on a farm. The important thing is that they have appropriate outlets for their energy. As mentioned above, they are busy and active puppies, so it is important to be aware of the time and energy needed for proper exercise and socialization in order to keep everyone happy!

+ Do you transport dogs out of state? What is the current fee for transport?

We ship dogs all over the United States and the price depends on the mode of transportation, time of year and the destination. We are always happy to help with this in whatever way we can.

What is the CVC Foster Program?

We believe that all dogs should be able to live in loving, stable homes where they are a valued member of the family. This is especially true for breeding female dogs, as they are our resource for the next generation of beloved pets and service dogs.

THAT IS WHERE OUR FOSTER PROGRAM COMES IN.

We partner with local families, who contribute to our breeding program as Foster Families and in return receive a “free trained Cedar Valley female dog.”

Interested families please complete an application and we will contact you.

Breeding rights are retained by Cedar Valley Canine.

Once your dog’s breeding career has been completed, she will be neutered at our expense, and full ownership will be given to the Foster Family and the dog will remain your forever pet.

Science has proven that happy, secure dogs produce happy, secure puppies. Therefore, it is imperative to us that Foster Families are very engaged with their dogs and provide a healthy, loving environment.
